More About Justin

Bio:

I was born and raised in South Georgia but have spent time in Florida and Tennessee. However, St. Louis was the fresh start my life needed. It’s also here that I met my wife, Marisa, and where our daughter, Banks, was born. I’ve been around music most of my life… as a drummer and on the radio. There’s something about a melody and heartfelt, meaningful lyrics that speak to me in ways other things can’t. I’m highly competitive, usually organized, and slightly germaphobic. I have way too many hats and a fear of stinking. If we ever meet, you’ll probably be like… “That guy’s hat was way too big and he had on too much cologne.” I apologize in advance.

Beach or Mountain:

Mountain – because this white boy will roast on the beach.

Biggest Treasure in this life:

Person: My grandfather. He’s a WWII vet with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He’s also the most humble, God-fearing man I know. It will be a major accomplishment if I’m even half the man he is.

Thing: The drum set that I designed. Occasionally, I show people pictures like it’s my child.

Favorite thing to do on a day off:

Watch or play baseball. Well… let’s be honest. There’s no way I’m hitting a baseball. If I’m playing, it’s slow-pitch church softball.

Favorite bible verse:

2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Bio

I was born in the Pacific Northwest (my happy place) and have lived in a lot of places, but after 20+ years, I definitely call St. Louis my home.. I love mentoring teen girls/younger women, leading worship at my church, and being Kim Aunty to 3 of the most adorable kids. You will usually find me in a big pair of earrings, a kimono and comfy flip flops, while trying to convince anyone who will listen that “chips and queso” are indeed a love language!

As a former National Anthem singer for the Chicago Bulls and Cubs, I will always have a special place in my heart for these Chicago teams, but realizing how fun it is to win, I became a St. Louis Cardinals fan shortly after I moved here. I am fiercely committed to Sunday afternoon naps and sharing the love of Jesus, but not at the same time.

Nickname:

The Great Googler, Kim-Possible, DJ Jazzy Kimbo ..all ridiculous and I love it!

Biggest Treasure in this life:

My family and friends who are family! Also, photos of my parents who have passed away.

Fun fact:

I’m a former National Anthem Singer for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls

One meal to eat for the rest of your life:

Monical’s Pizza with pepperoni and black olives, Monical’s salad with their french dressing (Monical’s fans know what I’m talking about) and a Pepsi!

Favorite bible verse:

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Bio:

Whether it’s hearing my own kids sing along with the songs or hearing your stories of how a song or testimony has encouraged your life, I love being a part of this ministry. It makes me think of all the time I spent listening to the radio on my boombox growing up. I loved recording my own “radio shows“ and dreaming of the ways God would use this technology to reach people with a message of hope. Even when I’m not at work, you’ll find me listening to lots of music, often singing along with our kids.

My wife and I’ve been married for over 20 years and are happy to call St. Louis home. Our kids keep us busy enjoying their various athletic adventures and activities. I have become a big soccer fan and love attending ST LOUIS CITY SC games and cheering on our hometown team. Thanks for listening to JOY FM and being part of this incredible ministry.

Last show you binge watched:
The Office

Beach or Mountain:
Mountains with a lake and a boat. However, I would prefer the year long nicer weather at a beach location.

Pizza or Burger:

Can I choose both? Yes, yes I can. (Giordano’s deep dish and Five Guys burgers)

Fun fact:

I once met and interviewed Mr. McFeely (David Newell) from the classic kids show “Mr, Roger’s Neighborhood” – as a fan of the show, it was really cool.

Favorite Bible Verse:

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
