Rock Out for M.S.
Friday, Jan 9 7:00 pm
I am a 44 year old mother and grandmother. I have been battling M.S. for almost 20 years now. When I was first diagnosed, I had three small sons, ages 7, 5 and 2. I had been a stay-home mom for about 10 years. It was very frightening to be diagnosed with such a life changing disease and it put a big strain on my marriage. Two years after my diagnosis, I went through a very painful divorce. It was tough sometimes raising three boys by myself. But somehow we made it. My boys were real troopers through the whole thing. They always looked out for me and they never let me give up. They gave me the courage to keep fighting. I will be forever grateful to them for that. They are all grown now and have lives of their own, but I am fortunate enough to still a big part of their lives. I am also remarried now to a wonderful man who took on a pretty big package. My youngest son, who is now 21, is putting on an event in my honor on January 9th, 2009. His event is called "Rock out for M.S." He has managed to find five bands to play that night: Soma, Kevin Babb, Sudden Passion, Lydia Loveless & Oldskin. The tickets can be bought ahead of time or at Fubar (3108 Locust, St. Louis) for $10 each. He is also selling t-shirts for $10. All of the proceeds from this event will go to the National M.S. Society - Gateway Area Chapter. I am so very proud of my sons. Sometimes I felt bad because they had to grow up so fast. However, now I realize that it only made them stronger and so caring. Even though I am a writer and usually have pretty much to say, I am almost speechless when I talk about my son's event. I am so proud of his strength throughout the years. In 21 years, I don't ever recall raising my voice at him because he never wanted to upset me. Now, even with some setbacks along the way, he has still managed to pull off this great event. I would like to commend him on his efforts and let him know how much this means to me. To find out all of the details, you can go to his website at www.myspace.com/rockout4ms.
